Hello everyone. My name is Stéfannie and I am 13 years old. At the beginning of summer 2007 I was diagnosed with scoliosis. At first I didn’t know what it was but afterward I heard that it was a deviation of the spine and when I heard that I had to go to Montreal to meet a health care specialist I was really sad. I was sad because I didn’t know what to expect. During the evaluation with the specialist, they told me that I needed to wear a brace. I was so disappointed since I needed to wear this brace for 2 years and that I might need surgery if the brace treatment wouldn’t work.

At first I wasn’t too much afraid about surgery. The thing that scared me most was that I have to wear the brace to go to school and to deal with the people and that they might laugh. But I thought about this and came up with the conclusion that I really need to wear my brace, since then everything is fine. I am now able to overcome this situation but I couldn’t do it without my parents help and the help of the specialist who treated me. Thank you.
